John Sumpter, Counselor

John Sumpter has been married for 34 years and is the father of seven children and grandfather of two. He brings nearly 30 years of ministry experience, having served in youth ministry and pastoral roles, along with over a decade of service as a chaplain and bereavement coordinator.

John holds a Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and has counseled individuals ranging from teenagers to adults in their 80s. He is passionate about helping both youth and adults understand their identity in Christ and how it shapes their daily lives. He has a deep burden to walk alongside those who feel hopeless and help them find lasting hope through the gospel.

His counseling approach is both gospel-centered and clinically informed. He also has experience helping clients address concerns related to pornography use and sexual integrity.

In his free time, John enjoys spending time with his family, especially at the beach. He is also an avid sports fan who enjoys following the Baltimore Orioles, Washington Commanders, and Maryland Terrapins, as well as reading books and watching movies and shows.
